The carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.) is an evergreen shrub or tree cultivated in the Mediterranean area for its sugar-rich pods and gum-containing seeds. It reaches a height of 8-17 m in the wild but cultivated trees are smaller. Carob pods are used to feed horses.
